About Text To Speech

The synthesizer is espeak-ng running on the server: pick a voice and a pace, and the page writes you a WAV file you can download and play anywhere.

Nothing is uploaded to a third-party service and nothing is cached: each run produces a fresh file on the server and hands it straight back to you.

Because this is a synthesizer rather than a recording, pronunciation is mechanical: numbers and common abbreviations are expanded, but very unusual words can sound flat.

Questions about Text To Speech

Do I need to install anything?

No. The browser plays the WAV the page hands back; the synthesis itself happens server-side.

Is the speech cached between visits?

No. Every request generates a new file; the server cleans up the outputs it has served.

Does it read numbers aloud?

Yes, espeak-ng expands common numbers and abbreviations in the selected language, so 1,205 is read as a number.

Why is my language not listed?

Only the voices this site exposes appear here; the underlying engine knows many more, but the list is kept to the ones worth hearing.
