About Discount Calculator
A discount is one multiplication: the list price times one minus the percent off. The savings figure is the difference, and both are shown to the cent because prices get compared at the shelf, not in head-rounding.
When a store already quotes the reduced price, entering it as a tag price derives the real discount instead, and an amount actually paid can be pushed backwards to the shelf price it came from.
Questions about Discount Calculator
Is a 30% off tag then another 20% at the register cumulative?
Two stacked discounts multiply: 30% then 20% keeps 70% of 80% of the price, so the true discount is 44%, not 50%. Add the second pass on this page to see it.
Why does entering a tag price change the percent?
The tag is the ground truth on a price shelf: the discount implied by a list price and a tag price is exact, while a printed percent can be rounded.
Can a paid amount beat the calculated final price?
Yes, usually with a coupon or membership discount on top. The reverse card shows what shelf price that payment implies.
