About Budget Planner

Budgets fail where a single item pushes past the leftover, not where the total does, so the planner keeps every line: each item's share of income and the room that remains after all of them.

A negative leftover is reported as over budget rather as a signed number, because the useful next move is naming the line to cut, not reading a minus sign off a total.

Questions about Budget Planner

Which income figure should the lines match?

The same period on both sides. Income of a year with weekly groceries measures a yearly budget; tick the monthly view if both are annual instead.

Why is the deficit shown without a minus sign?

The card is labeled over budget, so the amount is the size of the overrun. Which line to trim comes from the shares column, not the sign.

Can an item show over budget while the total fits?

Yes. One line can exceed the income while the total stays under it; the shares column shows exactly that case.
