About Audio Converter

ffmpeg decodes the upload and re-encodes it into the chosen container. WAV and FLAC copy the sound losslessly; MP3 and OGG are lossy encoders aimed at the bitrate you pick, and the encoder may round the actual number to its nearest supported step.

ffprobe inspects both files as JSON: the container name, codec, sample rate, channel count, duration in seconds and bit rate feed every card, and durations print as minutes and seconds (mm:ss).

Video streams and embedded cover art are dropped before encoding, so the upload's audio track is what comes back converted. Uploads over 100 MB are refused, and a container ffmpeg cannot decode is reported instead of guessed.

Questions about Audio Converter

Which conversions are actually useful here?

Any pair: unpacking a lossy file into WAV or FLAC makes it editable, and packing lossless audio into MP3 or OGG makes it small enough to send.

Does setting a bitrate change WAV or FLAC?

No. Both are lossless containers here, written at the source's sample rate and channel count; the bitrate option only steers MP3 and OGG.

Will the duration change at all?

Re-encoding keeps the same time span; ffprobe reads it from the container, so both durations shown here match what any player reports.

What if my file has artwork embedded?

The audio stream is converted and embedded cover art and other video streams are dropped, which is why -vn appears in the command.
