About Currency Converter

Rates are live mid-market rates from the European Central Bank feed (via Frankfurter), refreshed and cached for twelve hours. The rate card always names its source and timestamp, so you can tell a live quote from the offline reference table.

The same answer also prints a rate table for every currency on the list at your amount, plus the rate and its inverse. Mid-market means the wholesale interbank rate: exchange bureaus charge a spread on top, so use this as the benchmark, not the price of a ticket counter.

Questions about Currency Converter

Are these the rates my bank uses?

They are mid-market interbank rates. Banks, bureaus and card fees add a spread or markup, usually one to three percent, so your actual conversion will differ a little.

What does 'offline table' mean on the rate card?

No live feed could be reached, so the bundled indicative table is shown instead. Those values are order-of-magnitude references, not today's rates; refresh once a feed is back.

When do the rates update?

The live feed is fetched once every twelve hours and cached; between refreshes the cached rates are shown with their original timestamp.

Why can't I pick an obscure currency?

The list follows the currencies the ECB feed publishes, which covers every currency used in normal travel and business. Anything outside it has no authoritative source here, and we never invent a rate.
