About SAT/ACT Calculator

Both scales are read from the sections up. SAT uses the classic three-section 640-point scale - Critical Reading out of 200, Math 1 out of 200, Math 2 out of 240 - and the total is those raw points scaled linearly onto 1,600, which is x 2.5 with no curve applied. ACT is its three 36-point subject scores: their mean, rounded to a whole number with a half rounding up, is the composite.

Percentiles come off the published tables rather than a model: SAT user-percentile values by tens, and national ranks for ACT composites 1-36. A score that is not itself a listed row is read at the nearest one, and the ends of the SAT table only ever say 'below the 1st' and 'above the 99th' rather than a number.

The two scales meet through the 2018 concordance, which publishes ACT 9-36 against SAT 590-1600. Below that range the page says no value is published instead of drawing a line through nothing, and a typed total is snapped to the nearest multiple of 5 because that is the only kind of total the test awards.

Questions about SAT/ACT Calculator

Why is my SAT total not the number I typed?

Section points x 2.5 can land between totals, and SAT totals are only awarded in multiples of 5, so the page rounds to the nearest one before it looks anything up.

Can an SAT score be converted into an ACT score exactly?

No. The concordance is one published crosswalk, built over 2011-2014 cohorts, that answers which students compare rather than what a score becomes; the page states its ACT value as that crosswalk.

What is the 640-point raw scale?

The older SAT scoring: three sections worth 200, 200 and 240 raw points, one raw point per correct answer, with scaled section scores curved on top. This page keeps the raw total and states the linear x 2.5 scale instead of a curve.

Which season are the percentiles from?

The SAT set is the published user-percentile table given by tens; the ACT ranks are the 2025-26 season's. Both shift by fractions of a percent between seasons, so read them as this year's reference.
